Does Gatsby Database Explorer Run Under Windows 2000?

Yes. You must install Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 before installing Gatsby Database Explorer. This is available at:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

After you've installed Gatsby Database Explorer you'll also need to update the permissions of the Gatsby registry key. Gatsby Database Explorer maintains configuration information in the LOCAL_MACHINE hive of the registry. Unlike prior versions of Windows, Windows 2000 configures the default permissions of the LOCAL_MACHINE hive of the registry to read-only. To update the permissions of the Gatsby registry key:

  1. Run Regedt32.exe

Click the "Start" button on the Windows Task Bar. Select "Run". Enter "regedt32.exe" and click "OK".

  2. Navigate to the Gatsby registry key

Select "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on local machine" from the "Window" menu. Double-click "SOFTWARE". Click on "Gatsby" to select it.

  3. Update Gatsby registry key permissions

Select "Permissions" from the "Security" menu. Click "Add". Double-click the account name that begins with "IUSR_" to select it. Click "OK". Check the "Allow" box in the "Full Control" column. Click "Apply". Repeat this process for the account name that begins with "IWAM_". Click "OK". Exit regedt32.exe.

Why does my Microsoft Access database remains open after I've closed my browser?

Gatsby Database Explorer will keep Microsoft Access databases open on the Web server until your session times out. This time varies depending upon your Web server settings. You can close the session immediately by clicking the Exit button.

Where can I learn more about designing Gatsby-friendly databases?

A Gatsby-friendly database is nothing more than a well designed relational database. One of the best resources we've found for learning about the fundamentals of relational database design is a book called Database Design for Mere Mortals by Michael J. Hernandez. You can find more information about Mr. Hernandez's book and other useful database design tips at:

Is Gatsby Database Explorer Y2K Compliant?

Gatsby Database Explorer contains no known Y2K compliance issues. However, since Gatsby Database Explorer interacts with Microsoft Access databases, make sure you are using Access in a Y2K compliant fashion. For more details on Access Y2K compliance, please visit:

Gatsby is also dependent on a component from Microsoft called the Microsoft Virtual Machine for Java. Not all versions are Y2K compliant. To make sure you have the latest compliant version visit:
